What to Expect During Construction
Construction creates noise, vibration, and dust and disrupts normal neighborhood activity.
You may experience traffic delays near the active work zone and noise from generators and sewer cleaning equipment. Please follow all construction and traffic signage to help keep our works zones safe. Crews will access maintenance holes in the street and in the grassy field next to I-5 and N Mississippi to establish construction access.
For detailed look at what to expect from construction, visit the Construction Impacts webpage.
Construction Methods
To perform this work crews will us a trenchless construction method that require little to no digging to repair the Beech Trunk sewer pipe. Crews will be using a method called Cured-in-Place-Pipe Lining (CIPP).
CIPP involves inserting a flexible liner inside the existing pipe, inflating the liner, and exposing it to steam to harden the liner inside the pipe. The liner forms a smooth surface inside the existing pipe, restores it to near-new condition.
CIPP Odor: CIPP repair projects can sometimes emit an odor during the pipe-lining work. The odor is from the chemical styrene in the resin liner installed inside the pipe. The odor dissipates quickly once the installation process is complete. The amount of airborne styrene is not expected to cause health issues for workers or the public. Visit the CIPP Webpage to learn more about this construction method.
Traffic/Parking
Traffic delays, temporary lane closures, on-street parking removal, pedestrian detours, nighttime street closures, and flaggers will be present as needed in the work zones. MAX light rail service will not be affected.
Bike Traffic
Bike traffic will not be impacted by construction. Use caution when traveling through the construction site and follow all traffic control signage.
