General property and zoning questions
Use the Planning and Zoning phone number and email address for general zoning and property information and process-related questions. When you call or email Planning and Zoning, please provide the property address or tax account number and a callback number. Please be as specific as you can about the zoning information you need. Planners strive to return calls the next business day.
When we receive your question, our preference is to call you back rather than respond using email. If you prefer an emailed response, please state that preference in your email.
We can answer general zoning questions about your site and process questions in an email. We cannot give land use determinations that are specific to a site in an email. You won’t be able to reply to the email answer you receive to ask additional questions; the replies are directed back to the general Zoning Information Line and you will need to ask follow-up questions through a new email request.
Complex zoning questions and multiple zoning questions
For complex or multiple zoning questions, please visit us in person in the Development Services Center. Planners are on duty to answer your questions during regular business hours. There’s no fee for this service.
If you want zoning questions about a specific site answered in writing, you may apply for an Early Assistance Zoning appointment or a Zoning Confirmation Letter. These processes allow staff time to research the site, land use or permit history, and provide a detailed response to questions.
For Building Code questions, call Building Code Plan Review or contact Development Services Planning and Zoning.
