Recommended Code Changes to Title 4 Murals, City Council Hearing August 7, 2019
The Bureau of Development Services and the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability will propose a package of code amendments to Title 4 Original Art Murals to the Portland City Council on August 7, 2019, at 10 a.m. on its regular agenda. The proposed amendments are intended to allow murals on more surfaces in the City of Portland. This will create more opportunities for muralists Citywide. Specifically, the amendments will:
- Expand the location where murals can be installed. Currently, murals are only allowed on a building wall. This proposal will allow murals on more surfaces such as retaining walls and fences.
- Remove restrictions that prohibit murals on some buildings in the central city.
- Reduce the amount of time a mural must remain in place from five years to two years.
