New Code Guide for Conducting Slope Hazard Evaluations Effective May 28, 2019
A new code guide has been developed to provide guidance to Geotechnical Engineers and Engineering Geologists who conduct required slope hazard evaluations. The building code sections pertaining to slope hazard evaluations in the Oregon Residential Specialty Code (ORSC), the Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC), and the Portland City Code Title 24 do not include specific requirements for slope hazard evaluations.
This code guide provides descriptions of the standards of practice and level of investigation and analyses expected for different types of slope hazards where development is proposed. It includes a description of when an evaluation is required, the requirements for slope hazard evaluations, and how to report of the results of evaluations. A standardized set of requirements will provide more certainty and consistency for customers.
The code guide includes evaluation requirements for several different types of slope hazard evaluations:
- Surficial Slope Stability
- General Slope Stability
- Seismic Slope Stability
- Deep-Seated Landslides
- Soil Creep
- Soil/Debris Flow Inundation
- Temporary Excavation Slopes
There are no procedural changes for customers. This code guide will be effective May 28, 2019 and can be found here:
