State of Oregon Tax Credit for Solar Systems Deadline

The Oregon Department of Energy provides residential homeowners with up to a $6,000 tax credit for their 2017 taxes (with credit taken over four years) for the installation of solar energy systems. In order to qualify for this tax credit, individual projects need to have installation completed and final permits issued by the City of Portland by Sunday, April 1, 2018. Only homeowners who purchased solar systems by Dec. 31, 2017, are eligible for the tax credits.

If your project has been permitted or is currently under inspection, please pay prompt attention to this message. We would like to help make sure you meet the April 1 deadline to have your project obtain final approval from the City.

The BDS Residential Inspections Team has dedicated three consecutive Saturdays where inspectors will come to your residence to verify the installation and inspect for code compliance. Those dates are:

  • Saturday, March 17
  • Saturday, March 24
  • Saturday, March 31

To sign up for an inspections appointment, Homeowners or Contractors must call 503-823-7388 by 3 p.m. on the Thursday prior to the requested Saturday inspection date. Once that call is received by BDS, customers will be notified by the Inspections Team with a service two-hour window. We will let you know of that window on the Friday afternoon before the date of service.

(This temporary Saturday scheduling option will not prevent Homeowners or Contractors from scheduling inspections through the regular IVR system to achieve inspections.)

There may be additional qualifications required by the Oregon Department of Energy. Please see more details on the state website or call 1-503-378-4040.

If you have any questions about BDS Residential inspections, please call 503-823-7388.
