General Information about the 2024 May Primary
In November 2022, Portland voters approved Measure 26-228, which eliminated voting on City candidates in primary elections. For the May 21, 2024 Primary Election, there will be no City candidates on the ballot. Instead, all City candidates will appear on the November 5, 2024 General Election ballot. Measure 26-228 also changed the way Portland voters will vote for City candidates. The first time ranked-choice voting will be used to vote for candidates will be on the November 5, 2024 General Election ballot.

Renew Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax for Street Repair, Maintenance, Safety
History:
- January 24, 2024: Portland City Council adopted Resolution 37648 to referring this measure to the May 21, 2024 Primary Election ballot.
- January 24, 2024: Ballot title and explanatory statement were filed with the City Elections Office. Portland electors dissatisfied with the ballot title language may file a legal challenge in Multnomah County Circuit Court through February 2, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
March 7, 2024: The City Elections Office certified the measure to the County. The County numbered the measure as Measure 26-245.
Current Status: Measure certified to County to place on May 2024 ballot.
