Learn about managing physical and electronic City records, maintaining records in accordance with the retention schedule, and accessing records located in the Records Center or in Content Manager.

Archives & Records Management provides guidance and training to help City employees understand their recordkeeping responsibilities.  We provide tools and guidance to ensure Portland city public records are compliantly maintained according to legal requirements regarding record preservation, access, security, and disposition.

Records created by the City are available for inspection by the public, unless they are exempt from disclosure. Please contact Archives & Records Management with questions related to your City records.

To make records accessible to all Portlanders, materials stored in electronic records systems, including Content Manager, should be accessible for people with disabilities. If the records are subject to the federal Americans with Disabilities Act Title II Web and Mobile Application Accessibility Rule, agencies are responsible for ensuring compliance before transferring to Content Manager or any other approved electronic records storage. For training or support on making digital content accessible visit the cities ADA title II resource page.
