About the community event

Portland City Auditor's Archives & Records Management Division is collaborating with Don't Shoot PDX on a series of community archives events throughout 2026. All events are free and open to members of the public of all ages with registration.

"Portland in Black: Documenting Our Lives in the City of Roses" is designed to grow community connections, build archival skills, and create a foundation to ensure community stories  are accessible for generations to come. Each event will give attendees the opportunity to work on personal archiving projects, connect with community members, and receive guidance from the memory workers at Don't Shoot PDX and the Portland City Archives.

The monthly series generally takes place on the 4th Saturday of the month from 10:00 am – 12:00 p.m. at the Black Memory Lab, 510 SW Third Avenue, Suite 400. The event in March will be the only one to take place on Friday as part of Don't Shoot PDX's Spring Break programming.

Each event is standalone. Community members can register for multiple or single events in advance.
