The conversation will feature nationally known subject matter experts in public art, conservation, history, and placekeeping and include brief presentations, a panel conversation moderated by Adam Davis of Oregon Humanities, and an opportunity for audience questions.
You will get to learn about the City's plans to reinstall the monument to Abraham Lincoln in early 2027 on a new base in the South Park Blocks. You will also have a chance to ask questions of panelists and other Portlanders who care about history and public art.
Attendees will leave the event having a greater understanding of the city's relationship to public art, monuments, and history, as well as the work undertaken by the Portland Monuments Project over the last three years, beginning with the community-led effort in 2021 by Converge 45 and including 2024's symposium on monuments.
This event is presented by the City of Portland Office of Arts & Culture as part of the Portland Monuments Project. The Portland Monuments Project supports public conversations, artistic projects, historical research, conservation, and community engagement examining monuments and public memory throughout Portland.
