Portland students share the importance of arts education and how it impacts their lives.

Sophomores share reflections

Film students from Franklin High School captured the voices of Portland's sophomores. Listen as they reflect on the impact of access to arts education since they were in Kindergarten, when the AEAF began funding arts for every K-5 public school student in Portland. 

Miles: "I want to help kids find a passion for music, like I was helped by my teachers." Parkrose sophomore Miles shares his love of music.

Cali: "I think art is important for elementary school students because it gives them a chance to explore who they are." Reynolds sophomore Cali shares her love of theater. 

Addie: "I think art is important for elementary students because it gives us a head start on what we want to do." David Douglas sophomore Addie shares how she found community through music. 

 Jackson: "I think everyone deserves access to art, music, writing--anything that brings them joy." Portland Public Schools sophomore Jackson shares his love of drumming.
