Return to in-person events

Exciting news! Portland Sunday Parkways presented by Kaiser Permanente is back in-person for its 15th anniversary! Join us for this special occasion as we open the streets at two events this year. This year we will have two in-person events, the first on  Sunday, June 26 in Northeast Cully and the second on Sunday, August 21 in East Portland

At these accessible family-friendly events, streets on the route are closed to car traffic so that you can bike, walk, roll and play in Portland’s largest public space, its streets. We’ve created two fantastic new routes that highlight our network of neighborhood greenways, parks and community resources.

During the COVID-19 pandemic when many options for fun and relaxation were put on pause, getting outside to go for a stroll around the block or a bike ride was a welcome breath of fresh air that helped us get through challenging times. At a Sunday Parkways event we will open the street to make more space for the things we love doing outside, and the neighbors we have missed connecting with.

Here are some of the goals that guided our decision to host two in-person events this year:

  • Maintain flexibility to be able to adapt to any potential changes in the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Prioritize two neighborhoods that have been underserved by Sunday Parkways in the past

  • Create events that are equitable, accessible, inclusive and reflect the communities they take place in

We’re thrilled to be returning to in-person events and appreciate your support and understanding as this program adapts to meet the needs of our communities. The Sunday Parkways Team will continue to monitor the conditions of the COVID-19 health pandemic and plan to follow all state guidance from the Oregon Health Authority to ensure the health and safety of all community members.

The spirit of Portland Sunday Parkways has always come from the people who make up these events, from dedicated volunteers, to amazing local vendors and entertainers, to the neighbors who we share the streets with, and this year we can’t wait to celebrate together.

Explore below for ways you can participate in Sunday Parkways.

Kaiser Permanente Sticker Hunt

In addition to our two live events, we are excited to bring back the Kaiser Permanente Sticker Hunt to inspire you to walk, bike, and roll all summer long.

If you have been to a Sunday Parkways, you may remember participating in the Sticker Hunt which encouraged participants to visit all five parks on the route. In 2021 in partnership with Kaiser Permanente we expanded on this idea of the Sticker Hunt to create a citywide experience that lasts more than just one day.

There will be five Sticker Hunts, each in a different neighborhood, that you can explore any day from June 1st to August 31st to earn a fun reward.  Like last year, online participation will also be available.

Be a part of the celebration

These large-scale community celebrations are only possible with the support of our amazing volunteers. Be one of the hundreds of people who help make these events fun and safe. You can sign up individually or as a group. A shift only lasts for half of the event so you will have plenty of time to explore the route and enjoy.

2022 East Portland Sunday Parkways Route

This year’s Sunday Parkways routes are specially designed to highlight Portland’s neighborhood greenway network, and parks. There will be spots in the parks and along the route where circulation slows for food vendors, non-profit & sponsor information tables and live entertainment.

Please note: Event routes are subject to change, we will post all updates here on our website.

What are neighborhood greenways?

Neighborhood greenways are low-traffic and low-speed streets where people walking, and biking are prioritized. Neighborhood greenways make traveling to the grocery store, school, pharmacy or other destinations by biking, walking, or rolling more comfortable and enjoyable.

Portland has over 100 miles of greenways, and is continuing to add more in certain areas and improve those that already exist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sunday Parkways is open to EVERYBODY

Portland Sunday Parkways opens the streets so that people can experience joy and belonging in their community. Therefore, hate is not tolerated at Portland Sunday Parkways.
